I B no M

I quit!

I have put in my 2 weeks notice here at IBM.

I am excited to start my new position as a research analyst for Coleman Insights.  Although the pay is much less, I am really looking forward to working in the music industry.  Coleman does research and consulting work for radio stations and record labels.  Exciting stuff!

I dealt with the good and the bad of a major tech company, but I am happy to walk away with some experience.

I praise God not because of this job, but because He humbled me in showing His Providence.

Celebration!

Goodbye consulting!

I am taking a new job within IBM!

I applied to a position in February, but I didn't hear back from the hiring manager, Phillip.  Since then I got assigned to a project in Atlanta.  I finally decided to email the hiring manager and asked him to reconsider my application.  The next day the hiring manager called me and asked me to come in his office for an interview.  I was shocked that Phillip responded so quickly considering he didn't even respond to my initial application.

The interview went really well and everybody was friendly and informative.  Afterwards, I thought they would take time in sending a response, but they gave me an offer that following Monday.  I was totally not expecting an offer right off the bat, but hey, I'll take it!

I officially accepted the offer two weeks ago.  I'm very excited to start!  Although this job is not glamorous, it will help in the following:

No more traveling
No more airplane delays and cancellations
No more coach seating
No more sleeping in hotel beds filled with bed bugs
No more inconsistent sleep schedules
No more trying to find something to do after work
No more inconsistent project schedules, timelines, and end dates
No more unnecessary career forms to fill out
No more missing out on events, small groups, and fellowships during the week
No more long distance relationship
No more eating out like a pig
No more long lines at airport security, ticketing counters, boarding, etc.
No more carry-ons and the worry of sufficient overhead compartment space
No more bumping into people or being bumped by people
No more horrific airport bathroom experiences (remember that post?)
No more...drooling while sleeping in flight (happened today)

So in short, I'm glad to say goodbye to consulting.  Hopefully I can start on April 16, but my current project manager wants me to stay on his project a bit longer.  It would totally suck if I had to stay with this project...there's so much busy work.

Anyways, I'm still thankful for this new opportunity in IBM software.  It's development and support work for WebSphere and I'm hoping to gain skills for better positions in the future.  I think it's a good start considering I have little WebSphere knowledge.  The best thing about this job move is that I will have more time to serve the church.  I want to be a part of a growing local community of young professionals in the triangle area.

All thanks to God for opening opportunities.
